ACPI APIC Support

Option name:

ACPI APIC Support

Possible values of an option:

[Enabled], [Disabled]

The option description:

The option is responsible for switching-on of the expanded controler of interruptions (APIC — Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller). The expanded controler of interruptions for the first time the beginnings will be applied on dual-processor motherboards since there it is much more difficult to process interruptions from various devices (not absolutely obviously what of processors should react to interruption). Then the expanded controler of interruptions "removed" and on normal single-processor boards — to devices becomes accessible more number of interruptions (24 instead of 16), plus, some expansion cards can "hang" on one interruption (in other words to divide it among themselves). If your operating system supports the expanded controler of interruptions (Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 and Windows Vista), include ([Enabled]) the given option. Otherwise (in particular for Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows Me) value [Disabled] should be installed.

It is necessary to consider and one more moment — the expanded controler of interruptions is a subsystem of the expanded configuring and control of a supply (ACPI). If you disconnect ACPI, you should refuse and usage of the expanded controler of interruptions.

To select an operation mode of the controler of interruptions (expanded or normal) it is necessary before operating system setting. Change of value of this option later is capable to break its normal functioning. Is mandatory involve an enhanced mode if at you the multiprocessor configuration, the processor with the virtual multithreading (Hyper-Treading) or having some kernels is installed. Only one processor (one kernel) otherwise will function, and remaining will be blocked.
