COM 2 Mode

Option name:

COM 2 Mode

Possible values of an option:

[Standard], [IrDA]
[Standard], [IrDA], [ASKIR]
[Standard], [HPSIR], [ASKIR]

The option description:

Some time ago for communication on small distances (we tell, between a mobile phone and the computer) the infrared port was often used. This device can be met in three variants of execution: at first, the infrared priemo-transmitter can be connected to one of computer COM-ports, secondly, for these purposes the USB-port can be used, thirdly, the priemo-transmitter can be connected to a special connector on the motherboard. And if first two variants demand only setting of drivers in the latter case, a pole to everything, it is necessary to fulfill certain adjustments in BIOS Setup.

The described option just also allows to configure the second serial port (COM2) for operation in a mode of infrared port. Naturally, it is a question only of the infrared priemo-transmitter connected to a special connector on the motherboard. The second COM-port is thus disconnected.

Value by default — [Standard] — assumes that the second serial port functions in a normal mode. The variant [IrDA] says that the appropriate equipment is connected to a connector on the motherboard, and the second COM-port is used as the infrared.

In some versions BIOS value [IrDA] is added by a variant [ASKIR] or instead of [IrDA] there are values [HPSIR] and [ASKIR]. In this case it is a question of specific implementation of the infrared interface. [IrDA] and [HPSIR] say that firm HP specifications (HPSIR it is decrypted as Hewlett-Packard Serial InfraRed), [ASKIR] — that the implementation offered by Sharp (ASKIR is selected means Amplitude Shift Keyed Infrared Port) are used. At a value choice it is necessary to mean that variant HP of faster offered Sharp, besides it is supported by a considerable quantity of devices.
