The given option allows to specify a data exchange mode (PIO Mode — Programmed Input/Output Mode) with the store connected as basic, to the secondary channel of the standard IDE/SATA-controller of a chipset of the motherboard. As a rule, it is possible to use a mode of automatic definition of the maximum possibilities of the connected store ([Auto]). In case of problems with the given concrete disk it is possible to use consistently slower, but also more reliable, in respect of compatibility with the old equipment, modes (maximum — [4] or [Mode 4], minimum — [0] or [Mode 0]).
For the inquiry we will result the maximum speed of data exchange with the store of interface IDE or SATA for each of modes:
PIO Mode 0 | 3.3 Mb/sek |
PIO Mode 1 | 5.2 Mb/sek |
PIO Mode 2 | 8.3 Mb/sek |
PIO Mode 3 | 11.1 Mb/sek |
PIO Mode 4 | 16.6 Mb/sek |
All modern hard disks, and also drives of optical disks and to it similar devices work in mode PIO Mode 4.
