Serial Port B Mode
Option name:
Serial Port B Mode
Possible values of an option:
[Normal], [IrDA], [ASKIR]
Or
[Normal], [1.6uS], [3/16 Baud], [ASKIR]
The option description:
Some time ago for communication on small distances (we will tell, between a mobile phone and the computer) the infra-red port was often used. This device can be met in three variants of execution: first, the infra-red priemo-transmitter can be connected to one of computer COM-ports, secondly, for these purposes the USB-port can be used, thirdly, the priemo-transmitter can be connected to a special socket on the motherboard. And if first two variants demand only installation of drivers in the latter case, a pole to everything, it is necessary to execute certain options in BIOS Setup.
The described option just also allows to configure the second serial port (COM2) for work in a mode of infra-red port. Naturally, it is a question only of the infra-red priemo-transmitter connected to a special socket on the motherboard. The second COM-port is thus disconnected.
Value by default — [Normal] — assumes that the second serial port functions in a usual mode. Variants [IrDA], [1.6uS], [3/16 Baud] and [ASKIR] say that the corresponding equipment is connected to a socket on the motherboard, and the second COM-port is used as the infra-red. Distinction between them — in concrete realisation of the infra-red interface. Value [IrDA] (as well as meeting much less often [1.6uS] and [3/16 Baud]) says that firm HP specifications (HPSIR — Hewlett-Packard Serial InfraRed), [ASKIR] are used — that the realisation offered Sharp (ASKIR means Amplitude Shift Keyed Infrared Port) is chosen. At a choice of this or that variant it is necessary to mean that version HP faster offered Sharp, besides it is supported by a considerable quantity of devices.
The difference between [1.6uS] and [3/16 Baud] consists in duration of the infra-red impulse designating a logic zero. It is equal in the first case strictly 1.6 micro seconds, in the second — changes in inverse proportion to used speed of data transmission (from 1.6 micro seconds on the maximum speed in 115.2 kbit/with to 19.2 micro seconds on minimum in 9.6 kbit/c). Understand, the second variant is steadier against every possible hindrances.
