The option description:

Here the type of the connected device is underlined. In old versions BIOS parametres of stores are presented in the form of the original table displaying parametres of stores. As a rule, this table contains only hard disks, and drives of other types (for example, drives of optical disks) are defined later — at a stage of loading of the computer. Modern versions BIOS profess other approach: each channel of the IDE/SATA-controller of a chipset (or, for older computers, simply IDE-controller) is presented by separate point of the menu. Having entered into it, you also will see parametres of the store connected to this channel, whether it be a hard disk or any other device.

Sometimes the considered option carries the channel name to which the given store is connected. For example, variants can be such: [IDE Primary Master], [IDE Primary Slave], [IDE Secondary Master], [IDE Secondary Slave], [IDE Third Master], [IDE Third Slave], [IDE Fourth Master], [IDE Fourth Slave].

To begin with we will consider possible variants of type of a hard disk in old versions BIOS (with the table of parametres). At a choice [Auto] automatic definition of parametres of a hard disk, value [None] will be involved specifies that the device is absent. If the variant [User] is specified, possibility manually is given to you (or by means of automatic definition — автодетекта) to specify all parametres of a hard disk listed in columns further.

In absolutely old versions BIOS besides presented above variants you can choose and digital values from [1] to [46], thus will automatically be filled all other columns of the table. This "atavism" remained since those times when hard disks only have begun the distribution (look at volume and all becomes clear to you). At all do not establish these digital values — is not present, you will not spoil a disk, and here the data can lose. However, this remark concerns any incorrect values of parametres of a hard disk.

Occasionally in the table of parametres of stores are presented not only hard disks, but also other ATAPI-stores. "Magic" value [Auto] solves all problems and in this case, but you can specify the necessary type of the device and manually: [CDROM] for drives of optical disks or [Floptical] for other stores (Iomega ZIP, LS-120, магнитооптики …).

Let’s pass now to newer versions BIOS. At a choice [Auto] care of definition of type of the store and its parametres incurs BIOS. Value [None] (in some realisations — [Not Installed]) will approach, if the store is not connected to this channel of the controller of a chipset or you do not want, that the connected store was defined by means BIOS (on occasion it happens it is useful). The variant [Manual] or [User] if it is, allows to set all parametres of the store independently. Other values correspond to store type: [CD-ROM] — to a drive of optical disks, [LS-120] — to the disk drive of the floppi-disks compatible to standard LS-120 (120 Mbajtnye of a diskette), [ZIP] — to device Iomega ZIP 100, 250 or 750 Mb, [MO] — to the disk drive магнитооптических disks (so-called магнитооптике), [Other ATAPI Device] — to all other devices connected to the IDE/SATA-controller.

The variant [ARMD] — ATAPI Removable Media Device — disk drive LS-120 uniting in, Iomega ZIP, магнитооптику and other similar devices is possible also.
