USB Controller

Option name:

USB Controller

Possible values of an option:

[Enabled], [Disabled]
Or
[USB 1.1 and 2.0], [USB 1.1 Only], [Disabled]
Or
[USB OHCI+EHCI], [USB OHCI], [Disabled]
Or
From [2 USB Ports] to [6 USB Ports] or [8 USB Ports], [Disabled]

The option description:

The option is responsible for the standard USB-controller of a chipset. Value [Enabled] allows to involve this controller, [Disabled] — to disconnect it. Considering an USB-periphery large quantity, the controller should be necessarily included (value [Enabled]).

Regarding versions BIOS this option allows not only to include or switch off the standard USB-controller of a chipset, but also to specify the used specification. At a choice [USB 1.1 Only] (or [USB OHCI]) the controller will work in mode USB 1.1, value [USB 1.1 and 2.0] (or [USB OHCI+EHCI]) allows to involve and modern mode USB 2.0. Installation [Disabled] disconnects the USB-controller. If to you there was such variant of this option, choose [USB 1.1 and 2.0] (or [USB OHCI+EHCI]).

The basic distinction in specifications USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 consists in the maximum speed of data transmission: for USB 1.1 it is limited by value in 12 Mbit/with, and at use USB 2.0 can reach 480 Mbit/with. Thus specification USB 2.0 does not impose any restrictions on the used equipment, perfectly supporting and низкоскоростные devices of standard USB 1.1.

Interfaces OHCI (Open Host Controller Interface) and EHCI (Enhanced Host Controller Interface) describe, as a matter of fact, hardware realisation of controller USB. To the specification 1.1 USB-controllers there corresponds interface OHCI, controllers of the specification 2.0 are under construction on the basis of EHCI. Thus, the choice of this or that interface unequivocally sets version USB.

In other cases this option allows not only to include or switch off the standard USB-controller of a chipset, but also to specify number of the involved ports (their maximum quantity depends on a chipset). As switching-off of a part of USB-ports does not bring any dividends, choose for this option the greatest of accessible values.
